Though companies across a wide array of industries, including retail, commercial real estate, leisure and travel, air travel, restaurant and food service, energy and communications have filed for bankruptcy since the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, on the whole, bankruptcies have fallen over the last two years as companies and governments have taken steps to protect against potential financial collapse brought about by the pandemic. Governments across most jurisdictions introduced programmes to help keep individuals and businesses afloat through the worst of the crisis.
